Panagiotis Lambropoulos obtained his Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1958 and his PhD in Nuclear Science from the Univ. of Michigan (USA) in 1965. His academic genealogy tree is available here.
He was a Professor at the Univ. of Southern California (USA) from 1978-1993 and joined the Univ. of Crete as a Professor in 1981. From 1983-1996 he was the director of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Lasers (IESL/FORTH). From 1993 until 2001 he was also the head of the theory group of the Max-Planck-Institut fur Quantenoptik in Garching (Germany). He retired and was elected Emeritus Professor in 2003.
