Goal of the Course | The course is intended for graduate students as well as for undergraduates with the proper background. The basic aim of the course is to study classical field theory and the standard model of fundamental interactions. |
Syllabus | Introduction to Lagrangian field theory. Elements of Lie groups, Lie algebras and group representationsSymmetries and Noether theorem. The gauge principle, Abelian and non-Abelian gauge theories. Spontaneous breaking of global symmetries, Goldstone theorem. Higgs mechanism. The Standard Model Lagrangian and its basic phenomenology.Simple topological solitons and magnetic monopoles. Non-topological solitons. Instantons and sphalerons in gauge theories. Fermions in background gauge fields. |
