Goal of the Course | Graduate laboratory course on electronic instrumentation, experiment control and data acquisition hardware and software. It is targeted for graduate and PhD students already involved or about to be involved in research laboratories and especially those who will have to construct custom experimental setups and to interface these to a computer or to the internet for remote measurement/control. A limited number of participants is admitted depending on the available workplaces (6 in the academic year 2009-10) |
Syllabus | Tutorials are taught on (a) principles and practices for accurate, interference free, measurement of electrical signals with particular attention to impedance matching, low noise devices and transmission lines, wide bandwidth measurement etc as well as on (b) Software for experiment control/data acquisition, Agilent Vee and LabView in particular. All students undertake in the following guided and supervised individual projects which vary significantly depending on their personal interests and on the available equipment. |
