Syllabus
Introduction to Lagrangian field theory. Elements of Lie groups, Lie algebras and group representationsSymmetries and Noether theorem. The gauge principle, Abelian and non-Abelian gauge theories. Spontaneous breaking of global symmetries, Goldstone theorem. Higgs mechanism. The Standard Model Lagrangian and its basic phenomenology.Simple topological solitons and magnetic monopoles. Non-topological solitons. Instantons and sphalerons in gauge theories. Fermions in background gauge fields.
