George Tsironis obtained his BSc in Physics from the Univ. of Athens in 1981 and his PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from the Univ. of Rochester (USA) in 1987. His academic genealogy tree is here.
He was Assistant Professor at the Univ. of North Texas before joining the Univ. of Crete in 1994 as an Associate Professor. He became Full Professor in 1999. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Physics from 2007 until 2011. From the fall of 2015 until Febrouary 2017 he served as Vice-Rector of the University of Crete.
His research interests are in the areas of condensed matter physics, statistical mechanics, nonlinear physics, and quantum metamaterials. With contributions to the nonequilibrium statistical mechanics of discrete breathers, nonlinear and superconducting metamataterials.
