Education

Manolis Sisamakis received his degree in English Language and Literature from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 1998, and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Dublin-Trinity College in 2002 and 2006 respectively, under the supervision of Prof. David G. Little. As he fervently believes in the ideal of Life-Long Learning, he has also attended and/or successfully completed a number of courses on a variety of subjects, ranging from Statistics, Criterion-referenced Course Design, Research Project Management, Blended and Technology-Assisted Learning, Sustainable Design and Practices, Inclusivist Education, Transformative Education, and Eco-living and Composting. He still does so whenever possible, and he also designs, organizes research projects and offers modular seminars and courses, which aim to offer to attendees inspiration and tools for self-development towards a better sustainable communal future. 

Career

Dr Sisamakis joined the University of Crete in 2017 as a lecturer of English for Academic Purposes in the School of Science and Technology. Prior to that, he worked extensively in a number of academic and research settings and teaching environments. As a researcher he has worked on Leonardo DaVinci Programmes, Local Development Programmes, and Alternative Tourism Development Programmes, oftentimes as a principal researcher. As of 2001, he has conducted research and taught in the University of Dublin for four years, in Dublin Institute of Technology for one year, in the Technological Educational Institute of Crete for twelve years, in the Department of Psychology of the University of Crete for one year, and in many other educational and research settings. As of 2008, he is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Centre of Technology and Research of Crete. Prior to his academic career, he also taught in private language schools for two years and in secondary education for thirteen years. 

Interests

His research interests include the European Language Portfolio and Portfolio-based Learning, Augmented-reality-based Learning, Criterion-referenced Course Design, Experiential and Discovery Learning, Research Project Management, Blended and Technology-Assisted Learning, Sustainable Design, Inclusivist Education, Transformative Education, Sustainable Design and Practices, and Eco-living and Composting. His other interests include his family and friends, and his belief in the power of positive thinking, and love for life, our world and our fellow human beings.
