Goal of the course
The goal of this course is the acquaintance with the satellite remote sensing and the acquisition of basic knowledge for its applications in land, atmosphere and sea. The potential of satellite remote sensing to support a broad range of scientific domains that involved in the study of environment will be presented and the benefits for the students of Department of Physics will be pointed out. Because the broad range of applications of remote sensing, their presentations will not be exhaustive, but the objective is the provided information to set the basis for the further studying. For this reason, some important applications of remote sensing have been selected for detailed presentation. Will be taught techniques for satellite image processing, based on methodological approaches that allow the combined exploitation of satellite derived information in several spectral areas to estimate spatio-temporal distributions of bio-geo-physical parameters. Finally, the synergy of satellite remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems will be demonstrated; the importance of remote sensing in global, national and local levels will be discussed and the role of European Space Agency will be presented.
