Xenophon Zotos obtained his BSc in Physics from the University of Athens in 1976 and his PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Virginia (USA) in 1983. His academic genealogy tree is here.
He has been a research associate at the University of Southern California, Bell Labs (USA) from 1982 until 1986 and a researcher at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) from 1986 until 1991. Following that he was researcher at the Federal Polytechnical School - Lausanne & University of Fribourg (Switzerland) until 2003 when he was elected a Professor at the University of Crete. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Physics from 2011 until 2015. He retired and was elected Emeritus Professor in 2022.
